Glowforge can cut felt, but it is important to note that the cutting results may vary depending on the type of felt and the thickness of the material. Here are some tips for cutting felt with a Glowforge:
- Use the right settings: Adjust the laser’s power and speed settings to achieve the best cut. The settings will depend on the thickness and type of felt you are using. You can test the settings by cutting a small piece of felt first before cutting your final project.
- Use a cutting mat: Place a cutting mat or a piece of cardstock on top of the felt to help the laser focus and to prevent the felt from moving while cutting.
- Use the right type of felt: Synthetic felt, like acrylic or polyester, cut better than natural felt, like wool or cotton.
- Use a low power setting: Felt is a delicate material and using a high power setting can burn it or cause it to melt.
- Use a vector cut: Use vector cut for detailed work and raster for large areas
- Keep in mind the laser is not good at cutting fabric with a pile, like velvet, as the pile will absorb the laser energy.
It’s important to note that laser cutting felt may produce a slight smell and smoke, so it is recommended to work in a well-ventilated area.
