Continuing Our Discussion on CNC Machining Centers

We are continuing our series of articles explaining some of the aspects and features of CNC machining centers. Our previous article covered how CNC machining centers can be used in various types of manufacturing. We also explored their automation features. Today, we will look at two more important aspects of CNC machining centers.

Different Types

There are two different types of CNC machining centers, vertical and horizontal. The horizontal CNC machining centers feature a horizontal cutting tool which works on the part or component in a horizontal direction and can machine up to four surfaces at one time. Vertical CNC machining centers feature a vertical cutting tool that allows a part or component to be machined vertically from above. Vertical CNC machining centers require much less installation space.

All-In-One Capabilities

Another hallmark feature of CNC machining centers is the ability to perform a variety of processes without having to change anything. They can grind, create grooves, drill, thread, bore, die manufacture, etc. all in a single setup. This enhances productivity, saves time, and allows one machinist the ability to monitor multiple CNC machining centers.
