New nine-laser Eplus3D EP-M1250 3D printer to debut at Formnext: technical specifications and pricing

China-based 3D printer manufacturer Eplus3D has launched a powerful new laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) system. 

Featuring a 1258 x 1258 x 1350mm³ build volume and nine fiber lasers, each of which is configurable to a power of up to 1000W, the EP-M1250 3D printer is designed to offer users cutting-edge 3D printing capabilities, in both scale and productivity. 

Leveraging its huge build volume and 240 cm3/h print speed, Eplus3D says it’s also possible to carry out the tool-free repair of parts that need a high level of structural integrity, in a way that could ‘take large-format metal 3D printing to the next level.’ 

Eplus3D’s industrial printing portfolio 

Since it was established in 2014, Eplus3D has built up a portfolio of LPBF, stereolithography (SLA) and Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) 3D printers, materials and software programs. In that time, the firm’s leadership team, which has more than 25 years’ experience in the field, has accrued a 3,000-strong client base, expanded into 40 countries and opened two facilities in Beijing and Hangzhou. 

At its facilities, the company claims to invest more than 20% of its annual revenue in R&D, yielding invention, utility model and appearance patents, as well as software copyrights, and “great achievements” in product design, equipment, processes, software, materials and post-processing across the field of metal 3D printing. 

More recent developments to come from Eplus3D’s efforts, include the metal 3D printed train brake discs it produced for a railway partner, and its EP-M450H 3D printer. Launched earlier this year, the system has dual-lasers and a 455 x 455 x 1100mm build volume, enabling it to print parts up to a meter in height, but with the EP-M1250, the firm has now upped the ante with an even more powerful machine.

Introducing the new EP-M1250 

Built not just for manufacturing at scale but doing so with high consistency, each of the Eplus3D EP-M1250’s lasers covers its own area during operation, in a way that maximizes efficiency. Thanks to precise positioning and its integrated area splicing control technology, the system is also capable of achieving full uniformity and stability in production. 

On the software front, the EP-M1250 is operated using Eplus3D’s proprietary control system, which includes intelligent planning and real-time monitoring functionality. The program also allows users to deploy the machine’s two-stage filtration system, which works to remove any harmful fumes, while remaining accessible to the point that it has a click-to-print button that automates many print preparation steps. 

In terms of material compatibility, the machine is capable of rapidly processing various metals, including titanium, aluminum, maraging steel, stainless steel, chrome cobalt and nickel alloys, amongst others. As such, Eplus3D believes its latest system could have applications in the production of high-performance aerospace, aviation, automotive, machinery and oil & gas components. 

Already, the firm has gained three aerospace orders for its new machine, but to showcase the unit’s capabilities, it has also produced a number of large-format demonstrators, including a rocket compartment and engine nozzle expansion section. While the former was printed from inconel 718 and measures 630 x 630 x 1100mm³, the latter is 1050 x 160mm³ and took around 160 hours to produce. 

Following the EP-M1250’s launch, Eplus3D plans to display some of its prototypes at booth E22 in Hall 12.0 during Formnext, which will be held from 15-18 November, 2022 in Frankfurt, Germany.
