Botox, dermal fillers, radiofrequency and laser are just a few of the popular procedures that have dominated the facial aesthetics market for some time. Boasting impressive results, these technologies and techniques have now made their way into a new wave of body ‘tweakments’ that focus on sculpting and shaping the physique - without surgery.

“Whether it’s improving cellulite or tightening skin, lots more people are investing in the appearance of their body,” says Shane Cooper, aesthetician and founder of his eponymous clinic. The reason why? According to Cooper, it comes down to evolving technologies that provide solutions to common concerns. “Now, there are so many body treatments that deliver different things and I think when offered a solution to something, people want to have access to it,” says Cooper.

Many of these treatments are non-invasive, combining multiple medical-grade machines to target various concerns for real results without downtime. From boosting collagen production to destroying fat cells, we round-up the latest body ‘tweakments’ and what you can expect from them.

1/ Collagen Express Treatment at Shane Cooper UK, London

The procedure:

“A painless treatment that combines tripolar radiofrequency with red LED light therapy to stimulate collagen and elastin production, resulting in tighter and smoother skin,” explains Cooper.

How does it work? Tripolar is the latest generation of radiofrequency that works by heating deep skin layers, causing collagen fibres to contract, resulting in tighter skin immediately. “This technology is the basis of most advanced anti-ageing treatments,” adds Cooper.

Who it’s suitable for:

“It’s ideal for mature clients who have noticed a loss in skin’s elasticity as well as postpartum tummies that have been stretched.”

What you need to know:

“There’s zero downtime,” assures Cooper. “Clients may see a little redness for an hour or so, but that’s all.” His top tip? “Avoid hot baths or showers in the evening after treatment to ensure skin doesn’t overheat.”

Sessions start at £250 and treatments last for 25 minutes. For best results, multiple sessions are advised.

2/ Sculpsure Body Contouring at Dr Joney De Souza Skin & Laser Clinic

The procedure:

Sculpsure is an FDA-approved, laser-based body contouring treatment that’s designed to reduce stubborn fat in problem areas, for a slimmer appearance without surgery.

“The Sculpsure device has four handpieces which can be placed on the abdomen, thighs, flanks, bum, knees or back, to treat during a 25-minute cycle,” says Dr Joney De Souza. “During the cycle, heat is used to destroy fat cells that are then dispersed through the lymphatic system as water during the following eight weeks.”

Who it’s suitable for:

“Treatment is suitable for those who try to maintain a healthy lifestyle - by eating healthily and going to the gym - but have spot areas of fat that they are unable to shift,” says De Souza. To assess suitability for treatment, a full skin analysis, patch tech and medical consultation will take place first.

What you need to know:

“There can be some tenderness and swelling after treatment which will subside after a few days,” says De Souza. As for results, these can be seen after eight weeks – “during which clients should continue to exercise and eat healthily”. In multisite trials of more than 100 patients, Sculpsure produced up to 24 per cent fat reduction.

Prices start from £1,000 and treatments are recommended four-to-six weeks apart.

3/ Slimyonik Air Bodystyler at D.Thomas Clinic, London

The procedure:

New to the UK, the Slimyonik AIR Bodystyler is a wearable device (worn from the waist down) that activates the lymph system, improves your metabolism and increases blood flow via 24 air-pressure chambers (12 in each leg) that deliver a pressure therapy massage.

“The chambers inflate and deflate in a sequence that boosts and supports the lymphatic and circulatory systems,” explains skin expert Debbie Thomas. “It is the equivalent of having 20 pairs of hands massaging you.” While wearing the device, a nasal cannula is fitted to provide purified air and boost the oxygen intake into the body by 40 per cent.

Who it’s suitable for:

“It’s ideal for anyone who wants to boost their body’s health,” says Thomas. The device boasts eight bespoke programs and 11 algorithms that can be tailored to the client’s needs – from a slimming and cellulite massage to a post-sport or relax massage.

“It’s perfect for athletes or for those looking to support weight loss. It’s also great during pregnancy and recommended for anyone with lymphatic issues, too.”

What you need to know:

The treatment is completely pain-free and there’s no downtime - you can even have it at the same time as a facial treatment for a 360 experience. “We do recommend drinking extra water after to aid with the flushing out of toxins,” adds Thomas. Results include reduced bloating, reduced cellulite, improved gut health and increased immunity.

Prices start from £95 and four treatments are recommended for best results.

4/ Go Figure! By Dr Natalie Geary of The Light Touch Clinic, Weybridge

The procedure:

A multifaceted health and wellness programme that uses the latest technology to support weight loss. “We use several devices that work in unison to help sculpt, shape and reduce fat,” says Dr Natalie Geary. Devices include the Emerald laser which “essentially frees your fat from within its cells,” lymphatic drainage “to remove the fat which has left the cells,” and EMS (electro muscle stimulation) “that provides the equivalent of a full workout in just 20 minutes”.

Alongside hi-tech treatments, the program includes bespoke meal plans and exercise goals as well as a 10-part podcast series. “From how the gut works to the role stress and sleep play in weight loss - I arm clients with as much information so that they can make better choices about their lifestyle.”

Who it’s suitable for:

“Go Figure! is for anyone looking to lose weight safely as well as improve their overall wellbeing, health and vitality,” says Geary. “The 360-degree program tackles large and stubborn fat pockets on the body and is perfect for anyone who has tried and failed at traditional weight-loss or dieting methods.”

What you need to know:

The program spans 10 weeks in total and clients will be measured (using a 3D body scan) at the start, week five and week 10, to track progress. “There’s no downtime for the devices used within the programme,” assures Geary, “and clients can expect to feel great – inside and out.”

Price is £5517 for the full programme.

5/ Morpheus 8 by Dr Jo Mennie at Dr David Jack Clinic, London

The procedure:

“Morpheus 8 is one of the most advanced technologies that effectively targets loose skin,” says Dr Jo Mennie. “It uses a combination of micro-needling and radiofrequency to stimulate collagen and elastin deep in the sub-dermal layer of skin.”

Prior to treatment, the targeted body area is numbed to ensure that there’s no discomfort before the Morpheus 8 device is applied – using different depth and energy settings.

Who it’s suitable for:

“It is the perfect solution for anyone looking to tighten and firm up areas of loose skin,” says Mennie. “Most commonly, we use the treatment on the tummy area post-pregnancy or following weight loss. Other popular areas include the thighs and knees.”

What you need to know:

The key benefits of this treatment include tighter skin, improved skin laxity and a reduction in fat. “For best results, three treatments at one-month intervals are recommended,” says Mennie, who adds that downtime is minimal with redness and swelling experienced for up to 48 hours.

Prices start from £3000 for three sessions.

6/ Profhilo For Body with Dr Sarah Tonks at The Lovely Clinic, London

The procedure:

Profhilo is a popular injectable treatment that contains a high concentration of hyaluronic acid to boost hydration and smooth skin. While treatments tend to target the face, Dr Sarah Tonks offers profhilo for the body.

“It’s exactly the same, except a larger syringe is used to cover a wider surface area,” says Tonks. “It can be used to treat crepey skin and lines on the arms, chest, thighs and abdomen.”

Who it’s suitable for:

It’s suitable for anyone who wants to smooth and tighten skin. “The treatment area is completely up to the patient,” adds Tonks. “One treatment will be one area, for example, the abdomen.”

What you need to know:

“There’s a little bit of downtime that will last a few days,” says Tonks, “and the main risk is bruising.” To help soothe skin post-treatment, “you get a small pack with a moisturiser and some sheet masks for the body”.

Prices start from £1095 and two treatment sessions, one month apart, are recommended.

7/ Emsculpt Neo at Dr. MediSpa, London

The procedure:

Emsculpt Neo is a new FDA-approved procedure that uses a combination of synchronised radiofrequency and high-intensity focused electromagnetic technology (HIFEM+) to target both fat reduction and muscle growth.

While radiofrequency works by heating and destroying fat cells, HIFEM+ contracts muscle fibres to increase muscle mass. One 30-minute abdominal treatment is said to be the equivalent of 20,000 crunches.

Who it’s suitable for:

This treatment is suitable for anyone who wants to strengthen and tone while simultaneously reducing fat. It can also help speed up recovery time and build up muscle mass after an injury.

What you need to know:

Nine different body areas can be treated in total (including thighs, abdomen and arms) and patients can have up to three areas treated per appointment. There’s zero downtime and results can be seen two-to-four weeks after your final session.

Prices start from £1000 for an individual session or £3000 for the recommended course of four.
